Over 1,500 people descended on Cardiff on 24th May to say NO! to Pylons in one of the greatest shows of people power the Welsh Assembly has ever seen.
The meeting, organised by Glyn Davies MP and Russell George AM, along with a number of key protest groups and the County Times, sent a clear message to the Welsh Government that Montgomeryshire is not to be ignored.
Protesters from Mid Wales were joined by coach loads of people from as far away as Cornwall, as well as television personalities and broadcasters like Siân Lloyd, who said "We have had the wool pulled over our eyes for too long. I will never be able to live with myself if future generations do not see the Montgomeryshire that I can see. This is vandalism on an epic scale."
Russell George, Conservative AM for Montgomeryshire, gave an impassioned speech where he emphasised that the plans were "illogical", suggesting the reaction if the pylons were to be built down the Mall and in front of Buckingham Palace.
Montgomeryshire's Member of Parliament Glyn Davies' heartfelt and powerful speech underlined the views of all those at the rally. "Never in all the history of Britain have our enemies wreaked such devastation on our country."
No Assembly Government ministers were available to comment.
