Dr Kay Swinburne MEP was re-elected as the Welsh Conservative Member of the European Parliament in May 2014.
Kay Swinburne (nee Jones) was born in Aberystwyth and raised in Llandysul, Ceredigion where she benefited from a strong Welsh medium education at Llandysul Primary and Llandysul Grammar School. Her first degree was in Biochemistry and Microbiology from King's College London, followed by a Ph.D. in medical research and an MBA from the University of Surrey.
Kay has extensive international business, finance and healthcare experience gained whilst working in the financial services specialising in cross-border mergers and acquisitions. As well as representing numerous multinationals in trade and financing initiatives across Europe, she has also been a leading healthcare advisor on Central and Eastern European issues acting as corporate and government advisor on biotechnology and pharmaceutical privatisations.Her knowledge of global financial markets, and experience advising businesses in Europe and the US, will allow her to apply the skills and knowledge she has acquired internationally to make a valuable political contribution on behalf of her home nation within Europe.Kay's political credentials to date include being an elected County Councillor with responsibility for cross-border health issues, a former town Mayor & an experienced campaigner & community activist. Kay was lead candidate for the successful Welsh Conservative European election campaign which saw the party top the poll in Wales and beat Labour for the first time ever.
Her political priorities will include economic vitality for Wales through sustainable investment and improvements in rural support and services, especially those most affected by European legislation, through reform and funding. Kay will work in Europe to protect jobs, safeguard the environment, support agriculture, and promote trade and enterprise in Wales.
