Phil Bettley - Candidate for Berriew

I am delighted to have been selected as your Welsh Conservative Candidate for the Berriew District in the County Council elections on 4th May.

I live on a smallholding in Berriew with my wife Brigitte. We have two daughters, four grandchildren and thirty sheep. We are involved in the local community in a number of ways. I help with the organisation of the Berriew Show and sit on the Berriew Community Council and on the Committee of the Community and Youth Centre.

I am a Litter Champion for Keep Wales Tidy and also have an interest in the Friends of the Montgomery Canal hoping to see restoration efforts accelerate.

I have spent a lifetime helping to reduce waste in business and am convinced that we should be doing the same in local government. We should be cutting waste, not services. The Welsh Conservative group has pledged to halt further cuts allowing a root and branch review of services, costs and benefits to take place. Any decisions made must be fair, sustainable and above all, provide value for money.

I am particularly interested in how we manage recycling and dispose of rubbish, how we maintain and improve local roads and how we curb traffic speed through the village of Berriew.
