Glyn Davies welcomes decision by PCC to hold Special Meeting to discuss Secondary Education Modernisation Strategy.

Glyn Davies, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Montgomeryshire has welcomed the decision by Powys County Councillors to hold an early Special Meeting  to discuss its Secondary Education Modernisation Strategy.  Councillors agreed to hold the Special Meeting last Thursday when pressed to do so by Conservative Councillor, Aled Davies who represents Dyffryn Tanat. Commenting on the decision, Glyn Davies, who is holding a series of public meetings around Montgomeryshire to discuss the issue said;

"The people of Montgomeryshire have been shocked by suggestions from within Powys County Council that the three High Schools at Llanfyllin, Llanfair Caereinion and Llanidloes could be closed as part of a wholesale reorganisation of secondary education.  It is vital that Councillors hold an early Special Meeting to clarify the position."
"Many Councillors are publicly condemning any idea that High Schools should close in Montgomeryshire, and they must be given an early opportunity to proclaim this opposition formally, in the Council Debating Chamber - and vote to rule out any closures. Our High Schools need certainty, and it’s up to Councillors to meet as soon as possible to provide it."
"In my 30 years in public service in Montgomeryshire, I have never known the people so angry, and so upset. They have been horrified to read a Council document contemplating what is the destruction of our Market towns. They also find it difficult to understand how this can have happened without Councillor involvement.  Let us have a Special Meeting to enable our Councillors to repair the wide chasm that has opened up between Powys County Council and the people it is established to represent."
