 | GLYN DAVIES BACKS MAJOR CUTS IN COST OF POLITICIANS |
 |
Glyn Davies, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Montgomeryshire is supporting calls for a major reduction in the cost of politics in Britain . He made his comments at a recent Conservative Lunch held at Meifod Village Hall. Glyn Davies outlined several ways in which costs could be reduced significantly, including fewer MPs, severe cuts in expenses and a one year freeze on salaries. Outlining his thoughts on how to begin restoring public confidence in politics, Glyn Davies said;
"Public trust in politicians is lower than I ever remember - and the main reason is that some of them have been driven by greed and more interest in using politics for personal promotion. Politics should be about public service."
"People want to see a cut in the cost of politics. The number of MPs should be cut by at least 10%. The number of Ministers should be slashed. All the Kelly recommendations to cut expenses should be implemented without delay. Personally, I believe there should also be a freeze on MP's salaries for as long as there is a freeze on public workers’ salaries. MPs must show people that they 'get it' and take the axe to huge costs they impose on the the taxpayer"
"People also want to see greater honesty. They've had enough of leaflets and newspapers attacking other parties, and using language designed to deceive. The sooner we have a General Election to clean up our politics, the better it will be for Britain ."
