 | GLYN DAVIES WELCOMES PROGRESS TOWARDS A KIDNEY DIALYSIS UNIT AT WELSHPOOL |
 |
Glyn Davies, Parliamentary Conservative Candidate for Montgomeryshire is delighted by progress now being made towards the provision of Renal Dialysis in Montgomeryshire. He has been involved in the campaign to establish a Dialysis unit at Welshpool for many years, and has worked with Kidney Wales Foundation to persuade successive Assembly Health Ministers to make the necessary financial commitment.
A Project Board has now been set up to make progress. Glyn Davies understands that a sum of £2.6 million has been earmarked for developments which include clinics for those suffering renal problems taking place at Welshpool from the summer, a temporary dialysis unit operating from around the end of 2009, and a permanent unit beginning on site next year. Commenting after his meeting with the Chair of Kidney Foundation Wales in Cardiff yesterday, Glyn Davies said.
"It is hugely satisfying to know that Montgomeryshire patients who need kidney dialysis should be able to access a service at Welshpool in a few months time. Over several years I've worked with many local people, campaigning for this dialysis unit to become a reality. It was a dream that we never gave up on. I have to pay tribute to Edwina Hart, the Assembly Health Minister, who I understand has allocated £2.6 million to provide a new service at Welshpool. This will allow clinics for patients suffering kidney problems to begin in Welshpool in the summer, and for dialysis to begin at Welshpool around the end of 2009. The new service will begin in a temporary 'de-mountable' building , but a new permanent unit is expected to start on site next year.
It will be personally satisfying for me when I see the first brick of the permanent dialysis unit being laid. All politicians have been damaged by those who have become associated with abusing their positions of trust. It’s great to be involved in delivering a project which really matters to Montgomeryshire. That's what the job of a politician should be about"
